The final countdown begins! There are T-13 days until you start back to school! If you are like me at this point in the summer you're wondering where in the heck the summer went? A few short weeks ago the whole summer was spread before you in a seemingly endless expanse of free days. Now it is slowly ticking down to the end.
I had a short and I thought manageable to-do list for my summer vacation. I was going to refinish and paint a desk I have dreams of re- purposing as a kitchen island, paint my ugly red brick fireplace, and paint the shutters on my house. Short and totally doable right? Maybe for someone else, I did none of them. Of course I have rationalized with my self that I will do them this fall once this horrible mid-west heat wave is over. You'll have to remind me and check in to see if I've done them.
Last week as I was sitting in Austin TX on vacation with my sons I suddenly was inspired to start work on my "school stuff". I have no idea what came over me especially since it was 11pm. I grabbed my trusty laptop and set to work creating signs, charts, and even lesson plans. This feat was made all the more difficult because the house I was staying at did NOT have Internet so if I wanted to check something I had to use my phone.
I did manage to make my tentative lesson plans for the first two days of school using this method. I say tentative because of course they will change some in the next week or so, especially after I meet with the rest of the fifth grade teachers this Friday and see what they are all planning.
So, enjoy your last few minutes of freedom and know that your teacher is hard at work getting back to work.
